Both Trigg County and Livingston Central had five hits in their softball game Friday in Smithland, but the Lady Cardinals made more of their opportunities in a 5-0 win over the Lady Wildcats.
Victoria Joiner had two of Livingston’s five hits while Maddie Norton added a first inning double. A misplayed fly ball led to the first two runs of the ball game, and Nevaeh Grimm’s RBI single staked Livingston Central to an early 3-0 lead.
The Lady Cardinals added a run in the fourth on a Joiner RBI single. Livingston’s final run came off an error — one of three in the game by the Lady Wildcats.
The combination of Norton and Madison Bolte in the circle held Trigg County to five singles.
Trigg’s best shot at crossing the plate came in the top of the first when they put runners at first and second with one out. A strikeout and a caught stealing ended the inning.
Livingston Central’s defense also turned two double plays and picked off a Trigg runner.
Avery Wade pitched well for Trigg with only one of the five runs she allowed earned. She struck out six and walked just three.

Livingston Central is 2-1 in the district and 14-8 overall. These teams will meet again Thursday in Cadiz.
