It was Senior Night for Dawson Springs, but it was Caldwell County senior Logan Smiley who had himself a game at Riverside Park on Friday.

Smiley pitched a no-hitter and struck out nine as the Tigers rolled to a 16-0 win over the Panthers in 7th District action. Smiley was also 2-for-3 at the plate with a double, two runs batted in and two runs scored as Caldwell completed a regular-season sweep of Dawson Springs.

A seven-run fourth inning was the big frame for the Tigers, who are now 11-7 overall and 4-2 in the district. Caldwell has secured the No. 2 seed for the upcoming 7th District tournament behind Madisonville-North Hopkins.

Dawson (3-11, 1-4) had just two baserunners in the contest — a two-out walk in the first inning and a leadoff walk in the fifth.

Smiley threw 69 pitches in the five-inning contest.

The Tigers backed him with 15 base hits.

Gabe Dyer was 3-for-3 and drove in a run.

Brady Holeman was 2-for-3 with a double and three RBIs. Deontaye Walls went 2-for-2, drove in two and scored twice. Matthew Blackburn finished 2-for-2 and Carter Whittington went 2-for-3 and scored twice.

The Tigers put up three runs in each of the first two innings to go up 6-0. They added another three-spot in the fifth to extend the margin to 16-0.

Caldwell County was scheduled to play two games in Smithland on Saturday — against Livingston Central and Mayfield — but those games have been canceled because of Friday’s rain.

The Tigers are slated to go to Marshall County on Monday.

Dawson is next scheduled to host Hopkins County Central on Tuesday.
