Lyon County freshman Peyton Williams enjoyed his longest outing on the mound this season on Friday night at Marshall County, tossing six shutout innings to lead the Lyons to a 1-0 victory over the Marshals.

The Lyons won their second in a row to improve to 20-4 ahead of Saturday matchups with St.Xavier and Kennett, MO in the Mustang Invitational at McCracken County.

Williams skirted danger all night, ending the 1st and 3rd frames with strikeouts with two Marshals on base.  A double-play stranded runners at 2nd and 3rd in the 4th, and another strikeout ended a threat in the 6th.

Marshall County’s Reese Oakley matched Williams out-for-out before the Lyons finally broke through in the top of the 5th.  Aiden Waters opened the inning with a single, and Gunnar Bingham followed with a double to put Waters at 3rd.  Jackson Shoulders grounded out to bring in Waters for the game’s only run.

Corey Cissell relieved Williams to start the 7th and struck out two of the three batters he faced to nail down the win for the Lyons.  Williams scattered five hits with three walks and six strikeouts to earn the win.

Bingham was 4/4 at the plate to lead the Lyons.  Evan Oakley finished with two hits for the Marshals.
