Trigg County snapped a 10-game district losing streak and put themselves in position for a three-seed in the district tournament with a 4-1 win at Crittenden County Tuesday.

The Lady Wildcats used single runs in the third and fifth innings and a two-run seventh to back the pitching of Avery Wade. The Trigg County freshman pitched a four-hitter and didn’t allow an earned run. She struck out three and walked two.

She was able to keep Crittenden from having a big inning in the sixth after Jaycee Champion cut the Trigg lead in half at 2-1 with a single. With runners and second and third, Wade got Charlee Munday to ground out and end the threat.

Trigg then added some insurance in the seventh. Kiley Slone singled, and Hendricks reached on an error. Audrey Alexander singled home Slone for a 3-1 lead, and Livia Breckel doubled home Hendricks for a 4-1 advantage.

Slone drove in Trigg County’s first run in the third inning with an RBI single. Courtesy runner Riley Taylor scored on a passed ball for Trigg’s second run.

Breckel, a seventh-grader and one of five middle schoolers in the Lady Wildcat lineup, had two of Trigg’s seven hits.

Prior to Tuesday, Trigg County’s last district win came in the first game of the 2019 district tournament.

Both Trigg and Crittenden are 1-4 in district play. Both have games Wednesday as Trigg hosts Lyon and Crittenden hosts Livingston Central.  If both teams lose Wednesday and finish 1-5, a coin flip will determine the district tournament’s three seed. The loser will be the four seed.
