Eighth-grader Jackson Flynn had one fewer RBI than his grade level in Tuesday’s 14-3 win at Heritage Christian Academy.
Flynn was 3-for-4 with a double, home run, and seven RBI as University Heights Academy snapped a five-game losing streak. Win or lose, UHA has been involved in a mercy rule ending in 11 of their last 12 games.
UHA needed only six hits to accumulate its 14 runs. Heritage pitchers issued 16 walks with five of the free passes coming around to score.
Flynn drove in the game’s first run with a single as a precursor of things to come. He had a bases-loaded walk in the second inning and smacked a three-run homer in the third to increase the UHA advantage to 10-1.
He added a two-run double in the fourth inning as part of his 3-for-4 night.
Ryan Luckey added two hits from the lead-off spot and scored four times for the Blazers. Bryson Turner walked three times and crossed the plate each time.
That was more than enough for Ian Tyler who needed just 81 pitches and 55 strikes to get the win. He allowed seven hits and three earned runs while striking out six.
David Jent had RBI singles in the first and fifth innings for HCA. J.J. Thompson, who came into the game batting over .600 for the season, also had two hits for the Warriors who have dropped four of five games and stand at 14-9.
UHA heads into next week’s district tournament with a record of 12-15.
HCA will look to regroup ahead of the KCAA State Tournament in a couple of weeks at David Eddings Field.
