Trigg County qualified for the boys’ state track meet in two events and will have to wait and see if they get the call in a couple of others.
The Wildcats finished sixth at Saturday’s Class 2A Region 1 Track and Field Meet at Paducah Tilghman High School.
Austin Cavanaugh punched his return ticket to the state meet with a second-place finish in the 3200-meter run. He was also part of the 3200-meter relay team that finished in second place and qualified automatically. River Oliver, Matthew Reeves, and Marshall Jenkins were on the runner-up relay team.
Cavanaugh must wait to see if his time in the 1600-meter run is one of the 10 fastest in the state that wasn’t a first or second-place finish at the region level that would secure him an at-large bid.
Trigg County finished in sixth place as a team with 44 points. Paducah Tilghman easily ran away with the region title with 190 points. Calloway County was second with 116.
