
The Fort Campbell Lady Falcons brought home the runner-up trophy from the Class 1A Region 1 Track and Field Meet at Murray Saturday.
The Lady Falcons accumulated 143 points to finish second to only Murray’s 175 points.
Gianna Verdone won region titles in the two hurdle events and ran the second leg on the 400-meter relay team that beat defending state champion Murray by .08 seconds.
Eighth-grader Jerni Hicks, who split time between middle school and high school events, ran the anchor leg and finished second in the 200-meters.
The top two finishers advance to the Class A state meet with the next 10 best statewide getting at-large bids.

The 400-meter relay team of Savannah Ziegler, Gianna Verdone, Natalie Winters, and Jerni Hicks edged Murray for the win in a time of 52.60 seconds.
The 3200-meter relay team of Lauren Blanton, Elizabeth Allen, Keelin Gray, and Meg Lubas finished in second place in 11:19.13.
The 800-meter relay team of Charlize Cruz, Natalie Winters, Jerni Hicks, and Savannah Ziegler came in second with a time of 1:51.33.
The 1600-meter relay team of Kennedy Leary, Anna Allen, Lauren Blanton, and Theadora Bober-McDonald finished in second place in 4:44.45.
