
Riley Hancock pitched seven shutout innings, and the Christian County Lady Colonels’ bats slowly came to life in a 5-0 victory over Webster County in the 2nd Region quarterfinals on Monday.
Christian County wins its region opener for the first time since 2018 to improve to 26-9 and will face Caldwell County in the semifinals on Wednesday. The Lady Colonels topped Caldwell 14-3 back on May 3.
Gracie Harned led off the 2nd inning with a home run to right-center to provide the only run the Lady Colonels would need. Hancock was in control throughout in the circle, allowing a single runner past 2nd-base and striking out six. She scattered five hits and issued three walks.
Christian County doubled its advantage in the 5th on Kaleigh Shaw’s RBI single before putting the game away with a big 6th inning. Pickle Winkler led off with a single and scored from 1st on Avery Adcock’s double. Karlee Crick singled to bring home Adcock, and Harned drove in her second run of the game with a double to round out the scoring.
Chloe Papineau took the loss for Webster County, giving up ten hits with four walks and a pair of strikeouts. Sydney Shoulders led the Lady Trojans at the plate with two hits.
Winkler finished 3/3 at the plate, and Adcock, Crick, and Harned each had two hits for the Lady Colonels.
