Grasen Givens and Ella Brown were looking to repeat last year’s state tournament first-round success that saw them advance to the second round. However, their draw this week was much tougher.
The Hopkinsville doubles team dropped a 6-0, 6-1 decision to Belfry’s Emma Harris and Clara McNamee Tuesday in the opening match of the KHSAA State Tennis Championships presented by UK HealthCare in Nicholasville. The Belfry duo was one of the top 16 seeds in the tourney.
Harris and McNamee advanced to the round of 16 after losing in the first round last year.
