Bellarmine University freshman Arren Hash threw seven strong innings to help the Hoptown Hoppers improve to 5-1 this season and top the Louisville Jockeys 11-1 on Wednesday in the first-ever OVL meeting between the teams.

The Jockeys opened the scoring in the top of the 1st when Max Samson’s ground out drove in a run, but Hash was lights out from there for the Hoppers.

With the bases loaded in the bottom of the 2nd, Hoptown evened the game with a run on a wild pitch.  Jacob Dupps grounded out to bring in another and put the Hoppers in front for good.

In the 3rd, Fred Fernandez singled in a run, and Anthony Smith doubled to the centerfield wall to plate two for a 5-1 Hoptown advantage.

EJ Alanis’ two-out double brought home two, and Fernandez continued his big night at the plate with a single to center to give the Hoppers an eight-run lead after four.

With a long drive back to Louisville awaiting the Jockeys, Hoptown gave them an early start by ending things in the 7th.  Anthony Zarlingo grounded out for an RBI, and the Hoppers stretched the margin to ten when Louis Vergara-Schoonewolf reached on an error to allow a run to score.

Hash scattered six hits and struck out five to pick up the win.

Fernandez finished 3/3 with two RBI, and Alanis and Smith each had two hits and drove in a pair of runs.

Keegan Kuha took the loss, allowing five earned runs on six hits with three walks.  Carson Boles had two hits to lead the Jockeys.
