Kentucky fans will have to decide how much it is worth to them to travel to watch the Cats play in the Bahamas. (Vicky Graff Photo)
I know one University of Kentucky basketball fan who sets her March/April work and vacation schedule around the Cats and also often makes trips to see UK play in New York, Indianapolis, Chicago and other places. She also often makes the 3 1/2-hour drive to Rupp Arena for home games because she has had season tickets for years.
She has been a regular when UK has played in the Bahamas, so I reached out to see if she was going this year after the prices were announced.
“Yeah, the prices are crazy for sure. I’ve been doing a bit of research. One can get a room (outside of the package) at the same hotel for about $3,800, then game tickets are $400 for each person. However, those tickets are not the ‘reserved court side’ seats and also no tailgate party or breakfast,” she said.
“The breakfast is $35 per person I found if you just buy it. Then a cab is about $40 each way. So that means $5,060 for two people instead of the $7,800 for the package price.
“That means $2,740 extra for court side seats and tailgate party. It must be some awesome tailgate party.”
It probably will be because it will be for the fans who put out the big bucks to be there.
My friend is still “debating” what to do. Her mother has been undergoing chemotherapy and that makes being gone a little more difficult.
What about the game in London in December against Michigan? Will she make that trip?
“I’d love to go to London but I just can’t do it in December. If I went, I would want to go for 10-12 days at least since I’ve never been,” she said. “No way for me to get that much time off in December because of the holidays. Plus, London would be cold and yucky in December. Why can’t they go to London for the August trip?”
Good question but I am guessing the sun and ocean in the Bahamas is a much better recruiting tool than a trip to London.
“I don’t think many will go to London either. My friend was going to London. He got tickets, room and flight but recently just canceled it all,” she said.
“I’m just wondering how many will go to the Bahamas, I’ve seen lots of complaints about price on Twitter.”

Some years back we took the girls (wives) to Maui to see the Cats. Open seating , and early golf got us there a bit late. Girls off to the spa so just two of us. No seat anywhere. There is a row of seats under the basket for NBA scouts with two seats empty – I say let’s act like we know what we’re doing and take those two seats. No problem ! My buddy is sitting next to Jerry West. Jerry is taking copious notes and my buddy is leaning closer and closer to see what he is writing. He finally says “ Jerry what are you writing “? He answers “ it’s a code so idiots like you won’t know what I’m writing “.
Great story Paul
The P’Pool Boys, from Lower Donaldson Creek, Cadiz, Kentucky have attended every basketball game the UK Wildcats have played in the Bahamas, but this venue is absolutely ridiculous. Lil Stef, Pete Scott, and I will have to miss this one due to the accommodations be so ridiculously high! I have attended multiple games, especially on the road, to include Las Vegas, and I have never paid the lodging fees this hotel is asking. 😢 Lil Stef and I have airplane tickets and lodging already for the London, England for the 04 December game at the O2 Arena with Michigan, which is half the price for two in the Bahamas! (Pete Scott couldn’t get off work for the London trip and is terribly upset we will not be going to this over priced trip. But i guarantee we all will be watching the games on the SEC Network!!
