River Dawgs Rally to Hand Hoppers Third Straight Loss

The Owensboro River Dawgs scored four runs in the bottom of the 8th inning to come from behind and take a 16-14 shootout over the Hoptown Hoppers Wednesday night in Owensboro. The River Dawgs scored in six of their eight at-bats in the high scoring win, as the two teams combined for 32 hits on the night.

After falling behind 2-0 early, the Hoppers came battling back to take a 12-7 lead after 3 ½-innings. The lead would grow to 14-8 after the top of the fifth, before Owensboro rallied with 8 unanswered runs, four in the bottom of the sixth and four more in the bottom of the eighth to claim the win.

Owensboro strung together three straight singles to score their four runs in the bottom of the 8th inning. The inning was set up by a couple of walks early in the inning. Dereck McCarley then got the save for the River Dawgs by striking out the Hoppers in order in the top of the ninth.

Joshua Rodriguez led the attack for the Hoppers, going 3-6 at the plate with a home run and 4 RBIs. Ren Tachioka was 3-4 with two doubles and three RBIs. Sean Sullivan ended up 2-4 with a home run, a triple, and two RBIs for the Hoppers.

The Hoppers finished the game with 14 hits while Owensboro pounded out 18 of their own.

Hopper hurlers had their struggles with control Wednesday night. Five different Hoptown pitchers combined to give up 12 walks and two hit batters in eight innings of work.

Jacob Dilday was tagged with the loss for the Hoppers.
