Trigg County’s Tay’Shaun Linton enjoyed a breakout sophomore season on the gridiron for the Wildcats in 2021, but that’s only half the story for a student-athlete who appears to have big things in store on and off the field.

Tay’Shaun appeared in eleven games for the Wildcats, finishing 5th in total tackles while also playing in the offensive trenches. His 28 tackles almost doubled his freshman output, and he also led the team with six tackles for loss and three sacks on the way to Class 3A All-WKC recognition. In addition, his 56-yard scoop and score in Trigg’s 48-16 win over Fort Campbell provided one of the season’s highlights.

A letter winner in football in both of his first two seasons, he also lettered in basketball as a freshman and powerlifting as a sophomore.

Just as his dedication has paid off on the football field, his performance in the classroom has also taken off. Tay’Shaun maintained a 4.0 GPA in both his freshman and sophomore years while earning the Highest Marketing Grade and the Highest Marketing Algebra 1 Grade and serving as Freshman Class President.  He says the lessons in “teamwork, discipline, perseverance, accountability, and handling success/failure” learned as an athlete have carried over into the classroom.

Tay’Shaun is active in DECA, earning a regional 1st-place award and serving as the Regional Vice President of Membership. He was also a Sophomore Representative for BETA and was recognized for Outstanding Character and Achievement.

Tay’Shaun points to English and History as his favorite subjects and credits his family and friends for “helping to create a standard of high academics, strong work ethic, valuing my many blessings, and keeping God first in all I do.”

He points to his parents for his love of education and football and praises his teachers at Trigg County for “showing they cared in wanting to see me succeed.”  Tay’Shaun also feels his “never quit attitude” is down to the work of the Wildcat coaches.

While he still has two years of high school remaining, Tay’Shaun is already planning for the future. He hopes to continue his academic and athletic careers at a university and would like to major in Sports and Entertainment Management. In addition, he will begin taking dual-credit college classes in the upcoming school year to get a jump on his college education.
