Alabama running back Khalifa Keith commits to Cats

Kentucky has a deep running back group going into the 2022 season but will lose three of its six top backs and took another step to reloading on Monday with a commitment from Khalifa Keith of Birmingham.

He is a 6-2, 215-pound power runner who also has the ability to hit holes quickly and seems to be a perfect fit in the running game new UK offensive coordinator Rich Scangarello plans to use with the Cats. He ran for 1,877 yards and 28 touchdowns last year on 190 carries — an average of 9.9 yards per run — for Parker High School.

Keith got his scholarship offer less than two months ago but quickly picked UK over Florida State and Georgia Tech. The 247Sports Composite ranks him as the nation’s No. 89 running back and No. 50 overall player in Alabama.

What I really like is that Keith also plays linebacker on defense and if a player is good enough to play in the Southeastern Conference, I think he should normally be good enough to play both ways for his high school team.

Keith is UK’s eighth commitment in the 2023 class and came just one day after the Cats lost three-star South Warren defensive back Christian Conyer to Tennessee.

Keith and Kaden Moorman, who plays at Franklin County, give Kentucky two big backs in the 2023 recruiting class who have size, power and good speed.

  1. Does this imply that after KY, Florida State and Georgia Tech were his top offers? No other SEC offers? We either got a steal or a project.

  2. Who knows ? Bama can only take about 15 in state kids with their national outreach. Plus there are 5 or 6 five stars from Bama that hit the portal yearly.
What I’m concerned about is the OC or our new LB ( well connected ) coaches not hitting any triples, doubles and for that matter singles.
Jeez, I hate to be a “negative Nellie”, but that’s my current vibe.

  3. I like his stats, and his size. I say coach him up and turn him loose. He could be a very good back in UK’s backfield very soon, and I will leave it at that. I will be watching for this young man to crank it up. Some 4*’s and 5*’s never make a lot of noise anyway. Besides that, get ready to see UK lose out on big time recruits because of the cheating going on with NIL offers. Sad day in college athletics what is going on. No way will it be fair for all.

  4. What if your $5M QB is a bust or has a career ending injury – does he give the $$$ back ??
The whole NIL isn’t sustainable – unless a goodly number of billionaires want to become millionaires !
