Lyon County Post 68 Routs Madisonville 12-2 in Semi-State

Lyon County Post 68 won its opener Tuesday night in the American Legion Baseball West Kentucky Semi-State Tournament at Hopkins County Central High School in Mortons Gap.

Caldwell County senior Ben Goodaker went four solid innings on the mound as Lyon wrapped up a 12-2 win over Madisonville Post 6 in just five innings.

Goodaker allowed two earned runs on four base hits. He fanned three and walked two.

Crittenden County grad Logan Bailey, who is headed to Southeastern Illinois College, helped lead the Post 68 offense. He went 2-for-3, drove in two and scored three times.

Down 2-1 in the third inning, Lyon put up five runs in the bottom of the frame to take the lead. Post 68 added six runs in the home half of the fourth inning to blow the game open.

Zion LaGrone had a triple and drove in two runs for Lyon County.

Dakota Lamb pitched a scoreless top of the fifth inning to nail down the victory.

Lyon is now 16-10 while Madisonville is 5-19-1.

Both teams will play again Wednesday in the double-elimination tournament.

Post 68 will take on Mayfield Post 26 in the winner’s bracket at 5 p.m.

Mayfield (9-17) upended Owensboro Post 9 by a 13-5 count in action Tuesday. Post 9 is the defending state champion.

Owensboro (19-8) will face Madisonville in an elimination game at 8 p.m. Wednesday.

The winner of the West Semi-State Tournament will advance to the State Finals in Bowling Green, which is set to begin July 26.
