First ESPN game and then hosting camp in Georgetown for Reed Sheppard

Reed Sheppard’s name continues to grow nationally and in Kentucky.

Reed Sheppard is having himself a week.

The North Laurel standout played against future Kentucky teammate Robert Dillingham on ESPN Tuesday night in the Las Vegas Big Time Finale Tournament — an event that apparently came together rather quickly to put the two 2023 UK commits against each other. Sheppard had 16 points, nine rebounds and four assists in the 78-67 win and played like the best player on the court. He even got a menntion on SportsCenter for his play.

Sheppard is now up to the No. 5 combo guard and 20th overall prospect in the 2023 recruiting class rankings in 247Sports composite rankings while Dillingham is No. 6 in the same composite rankings.

Then Thursday Sheppard and a group of local basketball coaches will lead a ProCamps in Georgetown Thursday afternoon for players in grades 1-8. The ProCamps release said players will “experience various stations specializing in the fundamental skills of basketball” but don’t doubt that Sheppard is the draw here.

It’s a similar format to what numerous Kentucky basketball players have used this summer thanks to the name, image and likeness options now available to athletes. However, I don’t recall seeing many Kentucky high school athletes use their name to make money conducting a camp.

This camp will be at Creekside Elementary School (1100 E Main St, Georgetown) beginning at 1 p.m. Thursday.

The release also made it clear this is not a UK event.

“This event is not affiliated with Kentucky Athletics or the University of Kentucky. It is a privately operated event by ProCamps,” the camp release said.

Sheppard’s popularity is only going to continue to rise and this could be the first of several NIL options for him during his senior year at North Laurel.
