Trigg County’s girls’ golf team continues to show marked improvement over last year after their showing at the Marshall County Invitational Tuesday.
MaKenzie Yielding shot a 106 at the Calvert City Country Club to lead the Lady Wildcat golfers. It was a 22-shot improvement over her score at last year’s Class 2A Sectional Tournament.
Emma Dowell shot a 108 Tuesday which was a five-shot improvement from last year.
Kalin Kingston took to the course in her first 18-hole event as she continues to learn the game.
Trigg County, which won a region golf title in 1999 and finished in the top 10 at the region as recently as 2010, has struggled to maintain the same success and numbers the boys’ program has over the same time.
However, Coach Travis Thompson said he has as many as six golfers who can take to the course on a given day as they work to continue to rebuild the girls’ program.
