The Fort Campbell Falcons took to the field at Clarksville Northeast Friday for their final preseason competition before the 2022 football season gets underway next Friday night. The Falcons took on Montgomery Central and Clarksville Northeast in a pair of 2-quarter scrimmages.

The opening matchup against Montgomery Central came down to the waning seconds. Central scored on a six-yard touchdown run with 27-seconds left to edge out the Falcons 14-13.

After trailing 7-0 at the break, the Falcons scored two touchdowns in just over a minute to get to the lead. Junior quarterback Darin Frederick had a solid two quarters of play, scoring on a one-yard touchdown run and then throwing for a five-yard score to Jontae Al-Muid.

The first score came after Frederick and running back Dakevius Lewis chewed up yardage driving the ball down the field.

The Falcon defense gave a big effort, coming up with an interception at the goal line from Dakevius Lewis right at the end of the first quarter and then a fumble recovery that set up the go-ahead touchdown in the second quarter.

The second scrimmage did not go quite as well for the Falcons. After getting a couple of players banged up against Montgomery Central, Fort Campbell squared off against the host Eagles, who were playing their first quarters of the evening.

The combination of big-time speed and fresh legs was a bit much for the Falcons, who seemed to get a little fatigued as the second scrimmage went on. Northeast would end up outscoring Fort Campbell 44-0 in two quarters of play.

Five of the Eagles’ six touchdowns came on plays of 20 yards or longer, three of them on plays over forty yards.

The Falcons now get ready to open the season next Friday night when they host Muhlenberg County.
