
Christian County owned a first half advantage in shots against Muhlenberg County Monday but couldn’t find the back of the net. The Lady Mustangs took advantage to score the first three goals of the match and post a 3-1 win over the Lady Colonels.
Christian County outshot Muhlenberg 8-5 in the first 40 minutes with just three of those shots on goal.
In the final two minutes of the half, freshman Elle Groves scored on a breakaway to give Muhlenberg a 1-0 lead at the break.
With a lead in the second half, Muhlenberg pulled some position players back which affected Christian County’s ability to work the ball downfield.
With 16 minutes left in the match, Chelsie Johnson pushed the Lady Mustang lead to 2-0 on a direct kick from 25 yards out.
Groves got her second goal of the contest when she scored off a rebound just six minutes later.
Christian County managed just three shots in the second half. The last was a goal by Cayleigh Clay in the game’s final minute — her second goal in as many games.
Olivia Fentress had seven saves for the Lady Colonels with six coming in the second half. For the match, Muhlenberg outshot Christian County 12-11.
Christian County returns to action Saturday against Union County.
