The University Heights Academy Blazers are headed back to the boys’ soccer 2nd Region All A championship game. The Blazers advanced by virtue of a 5-0 win over the Lyon County Lyons Tuesday night at Givens Field.

The match was one that the Blazers controlled from the very beginning, keeping the pressure on the Lyon backline defense and goalie while allowing Lyon County very few scoring opportunities on the other end.

UHA would take a 2-0 first-half lead thanks to Griffin McCoy. The lanky sophomore drilled a shot from just outside the box on the right-hand side at the 12:10 mark to put the Blazers up 1-0. McCoy would score again just over three minutes later when he broke open coming down the left-hand side and extended the UHA lead to 2-0.

Freshman Lincoln Hauret got the Blazers going in the second half, finding the net at 49:50 to move the lead out to 3-0.

Logan Miller scored on a corner kick that he bent in from the left-hand side, deflecting off the hands of Lyon County goalie Jackson Crawford at the 59:00 to move the lead out to 4-0.

Preston Thomas wrapped up the Blazer offensive attack for the night when he got clear on a run down the right side of the field and drilled the shot to make it 5-0.

The Blazers got a big night from Quinton Quarles in goal, as he kept the door closed on the Lyons for much of the night. Eli Finch finished out the final ten minutes of the match and continued the shutout effort for UHA.

UHA also got big minutes from Harlow Hampton and Clayton Lester on the defensive end of the field.

The Blazers improve to 2-2 with the win and will play Caldwell County in the 2nd Region All A championship match. The Tigers advanced with a 4-0 win over Heritage Christian in the Warriors first-ever appearance in the tournament.

Lyon County falls to 1-2 and is next scheduled to play Monday night when they host district rival Trigg County.
