The story in the first couple of weeks of the boys’ soccer season in the area might well be the play of the Todd County Central Rebels. The Rebels won their 5th match of the season Saturday, their fourth by shutout, as they took a big 4-0 road win at Barren County.
The Rebels are now 5-0-1 on the season and have only given up two goals in the six matches.
Todd Central got on the board 10 minutes into the game when Chris Salazar sent it in from the right-hand side and Chi Herrera finished on the back post to give the Rebels a 1-0 lead. That would still be the lead when the two teams went to the break.
The Rebels then put the hammer down on the Trojans in the second half. Zack Robinson got things going early in the second half, converting another Chris Salazar corner from the right with a volley inside the box to make it 2-0.
At the 15-minute mark in the second half, Robinson hit from 30 and the Rebel lead grew to 3-0.
Eight minutes later, Ivan Lopez found Ric Garcia-Sears on a cross to close out the scoring and give the Rebels the 4-0 win.
The Rebel defense did an incredible job of keeping Barren County away from the net. Jonah Rager only had to make two saves on the day.
The Rebels will now be off until Thursday when they take on Butler County in the Scotties Classic.
