
After a first-set win on Monday against visiting Northwest, TN, the Christian County Lady Colonels couldn’t maintain the strong start in a 3-1 loss to open the season.
The first set was back and forth with five ties until the Lady Colonels took the lead for good after a kill by Aaliyah Bacon, followed by an ace for Skylar Kirby. Leading 21-20, Christian County outscored Northwest 4-1 to take the set.
The Lady Colonels built an early lead in the second, but with the set tied 11-11, Northwest took over. Christian County took a timeout down 15-21, but Northwest kept the momentum to win 25-20.
The third set was one-sided, with the Lady Colonels trailing by as many as twelve on the way to a 15-25 defeat.
Christian County didn’t show much life early on in the final set, trailing 1-8 before battling back to 12-15 after a Kirby kill. However, Northwest held on down the stretch to win 25-19 and take the match.
The Lady Colonels are off the rest of the week before a district showdown with University Heights on Monday.
