A goal just before the halftime whistle helped Massac County (Ill.) turn the tide at Lyon County on Thursday.

The Lyons held a 2-0 lead, but Jack Turner scored in the 40th minute to trim the margin to 2-1 at the break.

The visiting Patriots rode that momentum into the second half, as Massac rallied for a 3-2 victory.

Timothy Stewart had given Lyon its lead with goals 2 minutes apart in the first half.

Stewart scored unassisted in front of the net in the 27th minute to account for the game’s first score.

Stewart scored again in the 29th minute, beating the Massac goalkeeper to a loose ball and punching it into the net. Lukas Sperry picked up an assist on the play as the Lyons went up 2-0.

Still up 2-1 after halftime, Lyon saw Massac tie the contest in the 45th minute on a goal by Tate Jennings.

Jennings then set up Turner’s second goal of the night in the 50th minute as the Patriots grabbed the lead.

Neither side could find the net over the final 30 minutes as Massac made its one-goal advantage stand up.

Massac outshot Lyon 21-16 in the contest.

Ashton Reinwald had four saves in the Massac net.

Jackson Crawford recorded six saves for the Lyons.

The Patriots are now 2-1 while Lyon is 2-3.

The Lyons will try to bounce back quickly. Lyon plays again Friday night at Paducah St. Mary.
