Momentum in sports can be a very fickle thing. Old “Uncle Mo” can decide, unannounced, to turn on a dime, leaving one team incredibly happy and the other trying to figure out just what happened. Such is the case of what happened to the Todd County Central Lady Rebels Tuesday night.

The Lady Rebels were hosting Logan County in a big 13th District volleyball contest. Todd County Central had only lost once on the season, and that was in the season opener at Logan County. Since that time, the Lady Rebels had not lost a match, in fact, they had not even lost a set since the Lady Cougars took three from them in that first match of the season.

Todd County Central was leading late in the opening set. The large contingent of Lady Rebel fans was roaring its support. Everything felt as if the Lady Rebels were about to take the opening set and set the tone for the entire note.

Enter the fickle nature of “Uncle Mo.”

Logan County finished the set with a quick blitz to take a 1-0 lead in the match. And, more importantly, set momentum in their direction for the rest of the match with that very quick turn. The Lady Cougars took the opening set 25-23 and before the Lady Rebels had time to regroup from the quick turn they delivered another staggering blow.

After the rally to claim the first set, Logan County opened the second set with a 5-0 run to take a lead they would not give up. For the rest of the set, the lead stayed somewhere in 2-8 point range as the Lady Cougars claimed the set 25-18 to go up 2-0 in the match.

A big part of the swing in momentum was the play of Logan County sophomore Aubrey Sears, who at times just took over the play at the net.

The Lady Rebels opened the third set going toe-to-toe with the Lady Cougars. But, with the match tied at 8-8, Logan County scored three straight points to take an 11-8 lead, a lead that they would not let go of for the rest of the match.

Todd Central would pull to within 16-15, but there would be no big comeback on this night. Logan County closed out the set, and the match, with a 9-3 run, taking the set 25-18 and the match three sets to none.

Lucy Chester led the Lady Rebels with nine kills on the night. Lynnlee Jones added six. Addileigh Wofford finished the match with 15 assists.

Todd Central drops to 8-2 on the season with the loss. They are back in action Thursday night when they host University Heights in a battle of the 2nd Region and 4th Region All A champions.
