Madisonville Sweeps Past Lady Colonels

9-6-atwell

After a competitive weekend at the Henderson County Spikefest that included a close loss to region rival Madisonville, the Christian County Lady Colonels were looking to use Tuesday night’s matchup with the Lady Maroons as a measuring stick.

However, too many self-inflicted mistakes by the Lady Colonels and a strong net presence by the Lady Maroons propelled Madisonville to a 25-13, 25-15, 25-10 at Lyle Dunbar Gymnasium.

Madisonville features two of the top hitters in the region with Drea White and Kaitlyn Orange. They were on point in the first set. Orange had four kills and White two in addition to three blocks.  Christian County had its chances but 14 errors in the first set were too many to overcome.

The second set was close early with ties at one, three, four, and six. Back-to-back kills by Hailey Sparks got Christian County to within 9-8. But Madisonville found its groove and ran off seven straight points to take a 16-8 lead.  Orange had two kills and two aces at the close of the set for a 25-15 Lady Maroon win.

The Lady Maroons led the third set wire-to-wire.

Orange finished with ten kills and four aces. White added eight kills and five blocks for Madisonville.

Christian County got 10 kills and four from Hailey Sparks and five kills from Kaidence Atwell. Camryn Armstrong added five kills and Rylee Owens had 15 digs and an ace. Peyton Owens handed out 19 assists.

Madisonville, considered to be one of the region favorites this year, improved to 11-5 overall and 6-1 against region opponents. The was Madisonville’s 11 straight against the Lady Colonels dating back to 2015.

Christian County fell to 1-7 overall and 1-6 against the region’s best teams. They will get a good idea of the position in the region over the next several weeks with five of their next seven matches against regional opponents.

They will step out of the region Thursday for a match at Owensboro Catholic.
