The University Heights Academy Lady Blazers took a big step toward locking up the top seed for the 8th District soccer tournament Saturday. The Lady Blazers held off the Hopkinsville Lady Tigers 2-1 to go to 2-0 in district play.
UHA has a home match with Christian County to conclude their district schedule next Saturday morning.
This one was a battle that came down to the final minutes of the match.
Hopkinsville took an early 1-0 lead after scoring on a penalty kick. Morgan Woosley scored the shot that put the Lady Tigers in front just five minutes into the match.
Later in the opening half, Audrey Grise found the net for the Lady Blazers at the 29:00 mark and the match was even at 1-1. That would be the score at the break.
In fact, that would be the score until the 78:00 mark. Hopkinsville was called for a handball in the box. Audrey Perry then found the net with the penalty kick, scoring the game-winner to give the Lady Blazers a 2-1 win and ending a two-match losing streak.
