Caldwell’s Collin Whittington Qualifies for State First Round

Caldwell County’s Collin Whittington is moving on to the State First Round in Owensboro after carding a 6-over-par 77 in the 1st Region golf tournament on Wednesday at Paxton Park in Paducah.

Golfers battled dry and windy conditions on a day when temperatures hit triple digits.

Whittington was the only Caldwell golfer to qualify for state, finishing in a three-way tie for eighth among those not on the top two teams with his 77.

The State First Round will be played Monday at Owensboro Country Club. Thirty golfers from Owensboro will qualify for the State Final Rounds the following week at Bowling Green Country Club.

Caldwell junior Austin Crick just missed earning a spot in Owensboro with a 7-over 78.

Other scores for the Tigers saw Camden McGregor shoot an 84, Ryan Hammett 88 and Carter Whittington 102.

Caldwell placed fifth in the team standings with a 327.

Marshall County won the team title with a 300 while the Marshals’ Trey Wall was medalist with a 1-under-par 70.
