Margaret Hendrix joined John Ladd, Blaine Alexander, Jackie Sholar, Jimmy Mathis, and the 1986 boys’ state champion cross country team in the 11th class to be inducted into the Trigg County High School Athletic Hall of Fame Saturday.

Margaret is one of the best combo runners in Trigg County track and cross country history.

She began her running career as an eighth grader where she finished in 8th place at the region cross country meet and 28th at the Class A State Meet.

It would be the first of four consecutive top-10 finishes at the region meet. She finished in ninth place in 1981 as Trigg County won a region title in just its fourth year as a program.

Margaret finished in 14th place at state as a freshman and 15th place as a sophomore.

In 1982, Margaret was second at the region meet and finished second at the Class A State Meet in a time of 11:35 over the 1.8-mile course.  She was the only Kentucky runner to beat her teammate that season, Kitty Davidson, who finished third at state.

Her big day helped the Lady Wildcats win their first girls’ state cross country title.

On the track, Margaret was a key member of several Trigg County relay teams.

In 1982, Margaret teamed with her sister Romalisa, Michelle Henderson, and Melinda McGee to win the state title in the 800-meter relay. That group finished in first place in every race that season.

The 1600-meter relay team of Margaret, Kitty Davidson, Henderson, and Melissa Thompson also won a state title. Their time of 4:07.33 is still the second-fastest in school history.

As an individual, Margaret finished in fifth place in the 800-meter run in 1982 in a time of 2:28.30, which was a school record at that time.

Here is Margaret’s introduction and induction speech.
