The volleyball postseason gets underway Tuesday night for the teams in the 8th District. The question going into the tournament appears to be whether or not Christian County, Hopkinsville, or Fort Campbell, can find a way to keep the University Heights Academy Lady Blazers from winning a fifth consecutive 8th District championship.
The Lady Blazers went 6-0 in district play this season, losing only one set in those six matches, that coming against Christian County, who on paper, would appear to be the biggest threat to end the Lady Blazers’ reign.
The tournament gets underway Tuesday night at Fort Campbell.
The first match Tuesday night has the second-seeded Christian County Lady Colonels taking on the third-seeded Fort Campbell Lady Falcons. The Lady Colonels handily won the first matchup between the two teams this season in straight sets. The Lady Falcons won a set in the second contest, but the night would still belong to the Lady Colonels. Christian County and Fort Campbell are set to play at 5:30.
The second semifinal Tuesday night finds top-seeded University Heights going up against fourth-seeded Hopkinsville. The Lady Blazers won both matches against the Lady Tigers in straight sets.
UHA and Christian County have met in the last two championship matches. UHA and Hopkinsville played for the title in 2019. The last time the Lady Blazers did not reach the final was in 2011, when Hopkinsville and Christian County were in the title match. Fort Campbell’s last appearance in the district championship match came back in 2010.
The championship match is set for Thursday evening at 6:00 at Fort Campbell High School.
