For the second time in the program’s brief 14-year history, University Heights Academy will be sending a volleyball player to the Division I ranks.
Junior hitter Julia Thomas announced Monday on social media her intent to play her college volleyball at Florida International University.
Thomas set the UHA single-season record with 345 kills in the regular season, shattering the old mark of 284 set in 2019 by Meg Adams, who plays for Midway University.
She ended the regular season with 755 kills and 231 blocks for her Lady Blazer career which will continue with a trip to the region tournament next week.
Thomas joins Meg Starling as UHA players to continue playing volleyball at a Division I school. After a storied career in high school, Starling continued playing at Ball State University garnering conference honors.
Florida International is located in Miami-Dade County and competes in Conference USA.
