Union County took control in the first half on the way to a 69-42 victory over Caldwell County in girls’ basketball action Friday night.
The visiting Lady Tigers got the first basket of the game from Jakhia Copeland, but the Bravettes scored the next nine points and were on their way to a 22-10 lead after 8 minutes.
Caldwell (1-1) struggled against Union’s full-court pressure. The Lady Tigers were held without a field goal in the second period as Union stretched its lead to 37-13 at the break.
The Bravettes flirted with the mercy rule in the second half but could never reach the 35-point difference.
Union led 56-25 through three quarters.
Madison Morris led four Bravettes in double figures with 18 points. Lillian Goodloe and Katelyn Hagan each had 11 points while Paige Steward finished with 10.
Caldwell got nine points from A.J. Hollowell, eight from Med Thomas and seven each from KeDarriah Thompson, Copeland and Presley McKinney.
The Bravettes have taken their last six meetings with Caldwell. Union holds a 31-20 advantage against the Lady Tigers all-time.
Caldwell’s girls will be back in action Saturday night, hosting Trigg County as part of a girls and boys varsity doubleheader.
