Kentucky fans Ash and Heather Hampton Mason got to London Wednesday.

What would make a fan go to London to watch Kentucky play Michigan Sunday.

For Ash Mason and his wife, Heather Hampton Mason, it was the opportunity to watch UK play in “another unique” setting.

“And London is beautiful during Christmas time. We had tickets for the canceled game in 2020,” Ash Mason said.

He said there were seven other Kentucky fans on their flight from Chicago to London Tuesday  night and they have spotted other fans since arriving in England.

“We keep hearing GO CATS around the city! That has to be a good sign,” Mason said. “At Buckingham Palace today for the changing of the guard, and a random British dude asks me, ‘Is Kentucky doing something here (in London)?’ Says he’s seen us everywhere.”

Mason is hoping the “gold standard” Kentucky basketball team shows up to play Michigan and “puts on a show like they are capable of doing” on Sunday.

“The game is being billed as a ‘showcase’ and it would be embarrassing to turn in a performance the likes that we’ve seen at times this season. Show ‘em who’s best at American college hoops,” Mason said.

The Masons went to Kensington Friday and planned to visit the home stadium of Arsenal, a professional soccer team.

“Of course the World Cup is huge here,” Mason said. “Just taking it all in. Would love to go home with a big W.”

They have only had one “bad” experience and it involved the Michigan basketball team.

“My wife and I were on a hop on/off bus tour when the operators kicked us all off in front of a hotel, due to a ‘health/safety issue.’ While waiting for the next one, Michigan’s team came out and boarded our old bus for their city tour. Not cool,” Mason said.

  1. I am glad they had a good time in London, but the game really stunk! It’s funny how Michigan has no problem getting the ball to their center on the block, why can’t we do the same for Oscar? Have you ever seen a KY team where the guards miss so many free throws? Calipari has no answer for zone defenses on either side of the floor. Sure we won, but it felt more like a loss.
