
The Trigg County Lady Wildcats rallied from eight points down in the fourth quarter to beat Caldwell County 67-61 Saturday in Princeton.
The win was just the seventh for Trigg County in 49 career road games against Caldwell County and marks the first time Trigg has won three straight games on Caldwell’s home court.
Kara Hyde scored 11 points in the fourth quarter, knocking down three 3-pointers and finishing with a career-high 26 points.
Down 55-52 with 2:41 left, Hyde tied the game with a 3-pointer from the wing. A.J. Hollowell and Med Thomas hit 3 of 4 free throws to push Caldwell’s lead back to four points at 59-55 with 1:42 left.
After a Tajah Grubbs free throw, Hyde buried a three to again tie the game at 59 with 1:39 left.
Landi Rogers gave Trigg the lead for good with 1:01 left with a driving shot in the lane. After two missed free throws by Caldwell, Trigg was able to run the clock down to 25 seconds. Olivia Noffsinger was fouled and made two free throws that extended Trigg’s lead to 63-59.
Med Thomas answered with a shot in the paint to cut the Trigg lead to 63-61 with seven seconds left.
After a Caldwell foul, Grubbs missed the front end of the bonus, but Hyde put back the missed shot and was fouled. As she was shooting her free throw, Caldwell County coach Chuck Mitchell was assessed a technical foul for his disagreement with the call.
Hyde missed the free throw, but Noffsinger hit two for the final margin.
Noffsinger finished with 20 points, including an 8-for-12 performance at the free throw line. As a team, Trigg County was 18-of-29 at the free throw line.
A.J. Hollowell scored seven first quarter points as the Lady Tigers led 16-13 after one quarter and 35-32 at halftime.
The third quarter was a statistical oddity. Caldwell outscored Trigg 11-6 in a quarter that featured five 3-pointers and two free throws. Hollowell hit four 3-pointers and finished with 22 points. Ka’Myiah Clark added 14 points as Caldwell hit eight 3-pointers.
Trigg County hit 10 threes as Noffsinger and Rogers each hit a pair alongside the six Hyde hit.
Trigg County will play at Madisonville Monday, while Caldwell County hosts Crittenden County Tuesday.
