Ohio County Pulls Away Late to Top Hoptown 69-58

The Hopkinsville boys’ basketball team fell victim to a 4th-quarter run by Ohio County on Saturday at the Farmer’s Bank & Trust Tip-Off Classic at Muhlenberg County, sending the Tigers to a 69-58 defeat.

The loss is the second straight for the Tigers to leave them at 1-3 with a visit from Webster County coming up on Tuesday.

Hoptown got off to a good start behind nine points from Antonio Williams and led 21-15 after the first quarter.  KeiMarion Smith knocked down a pair of three-pointers to chip in eight early points.

Williams added five more in the second, but Ohio County’s Carter Young and Parker Culbertson combined for nine, and the game was tied 30-30 at the halftime break.

Ohio County nosed in front by a point in the third before pulling away over the final eight minutes for their fifth straight victory.  Elijah Decker led the Eagles with ten points in the fourth, followed by Culbertson with six and Young with five.

Williams and Smith both finished with 16 points for the Tigers, and Bubba Leavell scored 12, including nine in the fourth quarter.

Decker led all scorers with 21 for the Eagles, Culbertson had 17, Young scored 16, and Bo Morse reached double figures with ten.
