Tigers Strong Arm Armstrong Field to Take Own Tourney

Caldwell County wrestlers swept four matches while capturing the championship of their own Armstrong Tiger Classic on Saturday.

The Tigers won both of their pool matches to advance to the Gold Pool for final-round action. Caldwell then won two matches there to finish first in the 11-team event.

The Tiger matmen edged Fort Campbell 46-36 in their first match Saturday morning, then defeated Owensboro Catholic 54-30 in pool play.

In the Gold Pool round, Caldwell beat South Spencer, Indiana, 54-30, then knocked off Union County’s “B” team 45-27 to capture top honors.

Union edged Spencer 42-36 to finish as runner-up. Spencer took third.

Other team results saw Fort Campbell finish fourth, McCracken County fifth and Owensboro sixth.

Calloway County placed seventh while Fort Campbell’s “B” team was eighth and Owensboro Catholic ninth.

Hopkinsville was 10th and McCracken’s “B” team 11th.

Caldwell County had five wrestlers post spotless worksheets for the day. Justin Kledjezs at 113 pounds, Logan Brown at 120, Cofy Walls at 132, Timothy Nichols at 138 and Jackson Riley at 150 all went 4-0 in the tournament.

Caldwell’s wrestlers next compete in tourney action at Christian County on Friday, Dec. 23.
