The Heritage Christian Academy boys’ basketball turned away a spirited effort from visiting Foundation Christian Academy on Friday, crumbling the Falcons’ resolve to pull away for a 53-34 victory.
The Warriors handed the Falcons their fifth straight defeat and improved to 2-4 against KHSAA teams this season.
Manny Diaz scored four straight points to give HCA an early 10-2 lead, and they were ahead 13-4 after Trentin Fowler’s three-pointer just ahead of the first-quarter horn.
Jason Leek scored eight of the Warriors’ 12 points in the second, including a pair of layups off steals to close the half with HCA in front 25-12.
HCA doubled up Foundation at 32-16 after a pair of free throws from Carlos Robles, and the Warriors led by as many as 18 in the third. But Foundation scored the final five points to trim the margin to 13 with a quarter to play.
However, Leek and Robles took over in the fourth to seal the win. Leek knocked down two three-pointers to stretch the lead to 22, and Robles added five points to finish with 15.
Leek led all scorers with 17. Ty Jernigan was the lone Falcon in double figures with ten.
