Cofy Walls Claims 132 Crown, Caldwell 6th at Woodford Invite

Cofy Walls claimed an individual championship on Thursday as Caldwell County’s wrestlers placed sixth on day two of the Woodford County Invitational in Versailles.

Walls went 4-0 in the 132-pound weight class. That includes a 3-1 decision over Robert Nardelli of Madison Central in the championship match.

Walls won his first match 21-5, won by pin in 1:46 in the next round, then claimed a 14-5 decision to reach the final.

Meanwhile, four other Tigers placed third in their weight 17-1classes — Logan Brown at 120 pounds, Colin Teutsch at 126, Timothy Nichols at 138 and Cole Sherill at 215.

Brown went 4-1 on the day, winning his third-place match 17-1.

Teutsch was 4-1, taking the third-place match 10-7.

Nichols turned in a 4-1 day, winning his third-place match by pin in 1:11.

Sherill went 4-1 as well, taking the third-place match by pin in 1:29.

Justin Kilzejs was fourth at 106 pounds, going 2-2.

Andre Carter placed seventh at 113 pounds while Jackson Riley was seventh at 150.

Caldwell totaled 128 team points. That trailed only Johnson Central (260), Jeffersonville (194.5), LaRue County (178.5), Oldham County (169.5) and Frederick Douglass (138).

While the second day of the Woodford County Invitational featured individual bracket competition, day one on Wednesday was a dual-format tournament.

The Tigers went 3-2 in duals and finished ninth as a team.
