
One night after seeing an 11-point lead slip away in a loss to Central Magnet School, the Hopkins County Central Storm rallied from a 14-point deficit to beat Heritage Christian Academy 64-56 at the Todd County Central Battle at the Border Thursday.
After a scoreless first half, Drew Skeen scored 16 points on just one bucket. However, the Storm guard hit 13-of-15 free throws to help stave off the Warriors. For the game, Hopkins Central hit 21-of-26 at the charity stripe. HCA was 4-of-7.
Heritage jumped out to a 12-2 lead early and built its advantage to 25-11. Hopkins Central drew to within 32-25 by halftime with Trevor Weldon scoring eight for the Storm in the second frame.
Hopkins Central opened the second half on an 8-0 run, capped by a Davonyae Butcher 3-pointer.
Tra Fowler keyed a 7-0 HCA run that put the Warriors back ahead 39-33. Up 50-48 after three quarters, the Warriors ran out of gas down the stretch, and the Storm used their advantage at the free throw line to pull out the win.
Trevahn Jones scored nine of his game-high 20 points in the third quarter to lead the Storm. After Skeen’s 16 points, Namari Hall added 11 points and 11 rebounds.
Carlos Robles led the Warriors with 19 points and backcourt mate Jason Leek added 17 points.
Hopkins County Central will play Trigg County in the fifth place game Friday, while HCA will take on Gordonsville, Tenn. in the seventh place game.
