Colonels Grab Control Early in 65-31 Rout of Caldwell

Christian County has won four of its last five games after dismissing Caldwell County 65-31 Tuesday night in Hopkinsville.

The Colonels, now 7-7, seized control early against the Tigers.

Christian scored the first 11 points of the night as part of a 22-3 run to open the contest.

The Colonels led 34-9 at halftime, and stretched the margin to as much as 38 points in the second half on the way to the 34-point triumph.

Christian forced Caldwell into 16 first-half turnovers. The visitors finished the night with 24 miscues.

Derrell Bateman had 16 points and nine rebounds for the Colonels while Jordan Miles added 10 points.

K.J. Vaughn had nine points and seven rebounds. George Sanders tallied eight points and eight boards.

Caldwell (3-9) got nine points from Zavy Bumphus.

Christian has taken 22 of its last 23 matchups with Caldwell.

The Tigers had picked up their first win over the Colonels in almost 34 years last season when they claimed a 64-50 victory in Princeton.

But the Colonels never let Caldwell put together any consistent attack on Tuesday.

Christian has a big 8th District date coming up on Friday when it hosts University Heights Academy.

Caldwell will play again next Tuesday when it entertains Crittenden County in a 2nd Region All A Classic quarterfinal matchup.
