
Trigg County shook off a slow start Monday to defeat Kenwood, Tenn. 51-31 at Wildcat Gym in the first-ever basketball matchup between the schools.
The Lady Wildcats made just 2-of-14 shots in the first quarter and 7-of-29 for the first half. Trigg took the lead for good on an Olivia Noffsinger 3-pointer and bucket by Kara Hyde to go up 12-10 with 2:58 left in the second quarter.
The Lady Wildcats held Kenwood to a pair of second quarter field goals and took a 16-12 lead into halftime.
The shots that weren’t falling for Trigg County in the first half began to drop in the third quarter as the Lady Wildcats hit 8-of-16 shots – three of those triples – to build a 36-20 lead.
Trigg County shot 48-percent in the second half and outrebounded Kenwood 36-30.
Noffsinger led Trigg with 20 points, nine rebounds, and five assists. Hyde added a double-double of 10 points and 10 rebounds as eight Lady Wildcats scored.
Yazmine Pearson scored 16 of Kenwood’s first 17 points and finished with 19 points and 13 rebounds.
Trigg County will play at Dawson Springs Friday.
