The Christian County boys’ basketball team will head home from Indiana with a pair of wins after topping Castle, IN 66-59 on Saturday in the Banterra Bank Warriors Showcase.
The Colonels opened the weekend with a 14-point win over Evansville Central, and Saturday’s victory sees them improve to 10-8 ahead of a visit from McCracken County on Monday.
George Sanders scored six of the Colonels’ 13 points in the first quarter, and they led by a bucket. Both teams matched their first-quarter totals in the second frame, and Christian County was in front 26-22 at halftime. Derrell Bateman and Breland Morrison combined for 11 points in the second quarter for Christian County.
Bateman and Morrison continued to shoulder the scoring load after the break, teaming up for 11 in the third to help the Colonels stretch the lead to 41-32.
Weston Aigner put up six of Castle’s ten points in the third before erupting for 14 over the game’s final eight minutes. Brady Reiter knocked down a pair of three-pointers on the way to eight in the final frame, but Morrison answered with two threes of his own to score 12 for the Colonels. Bateman also did his part to stave off a comeback with eight points to finish with 20.
Christian County earned a little 8th-District revenge after Castle topped Hopkinsville on Friday. Morrison had a team-high 24 for the Colonels, and Sanders reached double figures with ten. Junior Jordan Miles added nine to eclipse the 1,000-point mark for his career.
