Colonels Capture Commando Crush Championship

The Christian County Colonels claimed the championship of the Commando Crush Wrestling Tournament Saturday at Hendersonville High School in Tennessee.

Four individual championships helped power the Colonels to 169.5 team points in the 22-school field. That was 24 points more than runner-up Hendersonville. West Creek (Tennessee) was third with 144 points. Caldwell County placed fourth with 120.
Christian County had six medalists overall.

Capturing first-place honors were JaRi Campbell at 113 pounds, Haydon Merrick at 145, Deameion Leavell at 152 and Omarion Wimberly at 195.

Campbell went 3-0 at 113, winning his first two matches with quick pins then winning by technical fall over Kayden York of South Warren 19-4 in the championship.

Merrick needed four wins to take the 145 competition. He edged Gauge Estus of Lebanon 10-9 in the semifinals then won by disqualification in the finals.

Leavell was 3-0 at 152. That includes a 5-2 decision over Derek Corbin of Collierville in the first-place match.

Wimberly won three matches at 195. He pinned Joshua Ward of West Creek in 2:40 in the championship.

Ashton Smith placed fourth at 106 pounds. He went 3-2 on the day with three pins but dropped a tight 7-6 decision in the third-place match.

Kevondre Young was 3-2 at 120 but was pinned by Aaron Carpenter of White House in the third-place match.

Holden Schneider went 3-2 at 126 but fell in the consolation semifinals.

Dane Miller was 3-2 at 132 but lost in the consolation semifinal round.

Andrew Barton had a 3-2 day at 170, winning three straight matches by pin before ending his day with a loss in the consolation semis.

Xaveir Reid was 2-2 at 220.

Xaveiyon Reid went 3-2 at heavyweight. He won three straight matches — one in sudden victory — but lost in the consolation semifinals.

Campbell was named the Lightweight Most Outstanding Wrestler of the tournament.
