After a lopsided loss to 8th-District rivals Christian County last time out, the Hopkinsville boys’ basketball bounced back on Tuesday with a 90-45 victory over hosts Fort Campbell for the Tigers’ first district win of the season.

Playing without injured point guard Daisjaun Mercer, the Tigers jumped out to a 17-4 advantage after a dunk by Antonio Williams.  However, Aidan Blaszkowski got off to a quick start with 13 points to help the Falcons cut the lead to nine after the first quarter.

Williams scored six of the Tigers’ first eight points of the second, and Hopkinsville stretched the lead to 35-17 after a three-pointer by KeiMarion Smith.  Williams capped his 22-point half with a steal and a dunk in the final seconds for a 20-point cushion at the break.

A 13-3 spurt to start the second half blew the game wide open, and the Tigers triggered a running clock on Smith’s layup for a 68-33 score with just under two minutes left in the third.

The Tigers improved to 8-12 with their second-largest winning margin of the season.  Williams led the way with 26 points, followed by Smith with 18, Bubba Leavell with 14, Isaiah Manning with 12, and Kris Johnson with ten.

Blaszkowski added six points in the fourth quarter to lead the Falcons with 19.  Dason Tate also reached double figures with ten.

Hopkinsville has a marquee matchup with Lyon County on Thursday in a rematch of last season’s 2nd-Region title game won by the Lyons.

Fort Campbell will head to Christian County on Thursday in search of its first district win of the year.
