Caldwell Wrestlers 2nd at North Oldham’s Mustang Classic

Another strong showing for the Caldwell County wrestling team with the regional tournament just a week away.

The Tigers traveled to North Oldham High School outside of Louisville on Saturday and placed second out of 26 teams in the Mustang Classic.

Caldwell had two individual champions in that event. Collin Teutsch placed first at 126 pounds while Cofy Walls was first at 132.

Teutsch was 4-0 in his class, including an 8-3 decision over Xavier Montanez of Dixie Heights in the championship match.

Walls went 5-0 to win his championship. That included a 6-1 decision over Korrey Mattingly of Louisville Male in the finals.

Timothy Nichols took second place at 144. He won his first three matches by pin, then earned a 2-1 decision over Tyler Lattin of Meade County in the semifinals. Nichols was decisioned by Reese McGill of Oldham County 17-7 in the championshipmatch.

Two Tigers claimed fourth-place finishes — Justin Klidzejs at 106 and Logan Brown at 120.

Cole Sherill placed fifth at 215 while Aiden Asher was eighth at heavyweight.

Caldwell’s wrestlers will go to Ohio County on Tuesday.

The Region 1 tournament is then next weekend at Christian County.
