Hoptown Swimmers Finish as Region Runner-Up in the Pool

The Hopkinsville girls’ swim team brought home a region runner-up finish for the third straight year at Saturday’s Region I Championships at the Rick Cohn Aquatic Center. The Lady Tigers will send at least two relay teams and three individuals to the state meet later this month in Lexington.

The 200-yard free relay team of Lauren Montgomery, Elizabeth Langhi, Riley Robinson, and Livie Jorgensen won the region title with a time of 1:45.08.

The 200-yard medley relay team of Elizabeth Langhi, Riley Robinson, Lauren Montgomery, and Livie Jorgensen finished in second place in 1:57.71 to qualify for the state meet.

Elizabeth Langhi won the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 55.33 seconds and finished second in the 200-yard freestyle in 2:01.47.

Riley Robinson came in second place in the 200-yard IM with a time of 2:29.90 and second in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:13.41.

Lauren Montgomery placed second in the 50-yard freestyle in 25.56 seconds – just .40 seconds behind the winner. She also finished in third place in the 100-yard freestyle in 56.01.

Livie Jorgensen came in third place in the 200-yard IM with a time of 2:35.14 and seventh in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:24.43.

Grace Cansler finished in third place in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:15.80 and sixth place in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 28.25.

The 400-yard free relay team of Ella Brown, Anna Fort, Caroline Payne, and Grace Cansler finished in third place in a time of 4:18.77.

The top two finishers in each event automatically qualify for the state meet with the next 16 fastest times statewide receiving an at-large berth.

Anna Fort was fifth in the 100-yard backstroke in 1:14.67 and seventh in the 200-yard freestyle in 2:31.54

Caroline Payne was sixth in the 200-yard freestyle in 2:27.59 and 11th in the 100-yard freestyle in 1:07.35

Kaley Bangart finished in seventh place in the 500-yard freestyle in 6:38.79.

Saralynn Major came in eighth place in the 200-yard freestyle in 2:33.35 and eighth in the 500-yard freestyle in 6:49.36.

Ella Brown came in ninth place in the 100-yard backstroke in 1:19.31 and was 10th place in the 100-yard freestyle in 1:06.51.

Brilyn Merrick finished 13th in the 100-yard backstroke in 1:27.38.

Kaydon Coats placed 16th in the 50-yard freestyle in 36.15.

Hopkinsville totaled 367 points to finish in second place behind region champion Murray, who had 507 points. It’s the seventh straight year Hopkinsville has finished either as champion or runner-up in the region.

The girls’ state swim meet will be held on Friday, February 17 at the University of Kentucky.
