Trailing by a point with three minutes to play on Tuesday against visiting Warren East, the Todd County Central girls’ basketball team closed the game on an 8-0 run to claim a 51-44 Senior Night victory.
The win is the Lady Rebels’ second straight to improve to 13-10 ahead of their final 13th-District matchup with Russellville on Friday.
Alexis Taylor scored five points and Todd Central led through most of the first quarter before four-straight points from Rileigh Jones put Warren East in front.
Jamaya Kay’s layup and a bucket in the paint by Taylor to start the second quarter put the Lady Rebels back on top, but a three-pointer by Kennedy Lawson restored the Warren East edge. Todd Central cut the margin to a point on a putback by Taylor before Aniviyah Pearson knocked down a jumper for a three-point Lady Raiders’ advantage at the break.
Senior Jamaia Burks scored six points in the third, and the Lady Rebels led by a point despite a bucket by the Lady Raiders’ Cecelia Martter to close the frame.
Warren East took its first lead of the fourth quarter on a putback by Martter with 2:54 to play, but the Lady Rebels held them scoreless the rest of the way. Kay put Todd Central in front for good with a layup, followed by a putback by Taylor. Abby Williams iced the win with four-straight free throws in the final seconds to avenge a seven-point overtime loss to the Lady Raiders earlier this season.
The Lady Rebels made things hard on themselves with a 9 for 21 performance at the free-throw line, including four-straight misses in the fourth quarter before Williams closed it out.
