Trigg County’s Olivia Noffsinger was honored on Senior Night at Wildcat Gym and received a trophy basketball for her 1,000th career point (which actually occurred last season).
Oh, and she had 17 points and six assists to help the Lady Wildcats turn away Caldwell County 63-52 in what was a hotly-contested matchup until late in the fourth quarter.
Trigg (8-14) also got 15 points each from seniors Kara Hyde and Audrey Alexander while completing a sweep of the regular-season series with Caldwell.
But the Lady Tigers (6-18) didn’t make things easy on the Lady Wildcats.
Caldwell led 17-11 after one quarter, then extended the margin to 13 points, 28-15, when Tink Clark made one of two free throws with 5:08 left in the first half.
However, a Noffsinger 3-pointer started an 11-2 run to close the first half as Trigg crept back within 30-26 at the break.
Caldwell seemed to weather that storm when a Med Thomas 3 pushed the Lady Tigers’ lead back to double digits at 38-28 midway through the third quarter.
Again, though, Trigg countered with a run. This time a 16-3 spree pushed the Lady Wildcats in front 44-41 after three quarters.
A Tajah Grubbs layup off a Noffsinger assist gave Trigg the lead with 1:25 left in the period at 42-41, and the Lady Wildcats never trailed again.
But Caldwell was as close as 49-47 following a 3 by Clark with 6:36 to play.
Presley McKinney’s 3-pointer kept the Lady Tigers within 56-52 with 3:36 to go.
However, that would prove to be Caldwell’s final bucket of the night. Instead, Trigg scored the game’s final seven points to take its biggest lead with the final margin of 63-52.
Trigg shot 55.3 percent from the field and made 15 of 20 free throws while picking up the win.
Caldwell, meanwhile, got up a lot more shots (54-38), but connected on just 29.6 percent of its field goal attempts. The Lady Tigers were 12 of 16 at the charity stripe.
Thomas led Caldwell with 15 points while A.J. Hollowell had 14 and Clark 12. KeDarriah Thompson had 12 rebounds to go with two points.
Caldwell next hosts Fort Campbell on Friday.
Trigg will entertain Christian County on Friday.
