If John Calipari needed a little special pick me up this week, maybe Big Blue fan Myles Bell of Danville and his mother, Mary, provided it Thursday.
Calipari turns 64 today and certainly did not get an early birthday present when Kentucky lost at home to Arkansas Tuesday night. However, he got a nice surprise Thursday when the Bells brought not only a birthday cake for the coach but also five dozen cupcakes for his players and staff to enjoy.
Mary Bell contacted “Sweets by Cindy” in Junction City to prepare something special for the Cats — and did so before Tuesday night’s loss.
“I just told her to mix it up with some basketballs, some UK stuff,” Mary Bell said. “They were all so cute. She did such a great job and they were super cute.
“It was her idea to also make a cake for Coach Cal. It was simple but really cute.”
Bell had reached out to the UK basketball office to make sure it was okay to bring the cake and cupcakes over.
“I just didn’t want to be some random woman dropping by,” she said. “We didn’t expect to see anybody and if we had, it would have just been an added bonus. But the coaches were in a meeting when we got there. We did see (assistant) Chin Coleman later as we were walking around the Craft Center.”
Myles Bell, 21, regularly listens to UK related sports talk radio and seldom if ever misses watching and/or listening to a UK basketball game.
The Bells also delivered a birthday card to Calipari last year.
“Myles just wanted to take him something and also fixed him a card,” Mary Bell said. “Myles wrote, ‘I love you and hope you have a great birthday’ on the card. We just enjoyed having a chance to deliver the cake and cupcakes and just wanted it to be a nice gesture for the coach and players. We just hope maybe it helped cheer him and the players up and it made us feel good to do it.”

I don’t care who they are! You don’t wish for someone to choke on something! Yes, they’re not having as good a season as we all hoped, but neither is UNC, Florida, Duke
He’s used to choking during games. Duke and UNC were both in the FF last season.
Florida is a football school.
We’re supposed to be the gold standard as Coach Choke likes to say.

Mary is a quality person because she can look past all the sports stuff and see John Calipari as a person that probably appreciated someone going way beyond the extra mile to honor him on his birthday. Special person
Sports stuff mainly Kentucky Men’s basketball is supposed to be this clowns job. He can give up his 9 million salary and go wash all the feet and hand out all the turkeys that he desires.
He only does those things hoping to take the microscope off his terrible coaching. Once he retires I guarantee he won’t be doing these great deeds.
It’s all smoke and mirrors from the fraud.
