Calloway County’s Sayler Lowe just does not play like a freshman. Lowe was a matchup problem from the moment the game between the Lady Lakers and the Lyon County Lady Lyons tipped off Monday night. Lowe scored 18 points in the first half as the Lady Lakers took control of the contest and rolled to an 80-47 win in Eddyville.

Lyon County scored the first basket of the game and that would be the only time the Lady Lyons would lead in the game. Calloway County went on an 8-2 spurt to go up 8-4. The Lady Lyons would even things up at 8-8 before things started to get away from them.

With the Lady Lakers up 13-10, Calloway County scored the last four points of the first quarter and the first nine of the second quarter to run the lead out to 26-10.

In addition to the strong play of Lowe inside and some hot shooting from the outside for Calloway County, the Lady Lyons ran into some ball security issues that turned into easy baskets at the other end for the Lady Lakers. A good first half from Lexi Holland kept Lyon County within shouting distance in the first half. The half ended with Calloway County up 37-22.

The bad news for the Lady Lyons was that things got no better as the second half got underway.

Calloway County’s Jaiden Koch and Jaycee Crouch heated up in the third quarter as the Lady Lakers began to pull away. The lead grew to 20 points at 53-33. Calloway County finished the quarter on a 13-3 run to extend the lead to 66-36.

The Lady Lakers ran the lead to 36 points a couple of minutes into the final quarter which brought the running clock into play and sped the rest of the game up as Calloway County reserves rode the rest of the game out to the 33-point win.

Lexi Holland was the leading scorer for Lyon County with 15 points. Piper Cotham was the other in double figures with 11.

Sayler Lowe had a huge night for Calloway County with 29 points and 13 rebounds. Jaiden Koch finished with 24 points for the Lady Lakers.

Lyon County drops to 9-15 with the loss. The Lady Lyons travel to Caldwell County Tuesday night.
