Lyon County 8th-grader Trinity Taylor led a first-quarter onslaught to send the Lady Lyons on their way to a 73-31 victory at Dawson Springs on Thursday.
The Lady Lyons won their second straight to improve to 11-15. Dawson Springs lost for the sixth-straight outing to slip to 7-19. The teams will do it all again on Friday in Eddyville to wrap up the regular season.
Taylor drilled a pair of three-pointers to start the game, and the Lady Lyons led 11-3 after a steal and layup by Lexi Holland forced a Dawson Springs timeout.
Abby Ward connected on a three-pointer out of the timeout, but those would be the Lady Panthers’ last points of the quarter. Lyon County closed on a 14-0 run to lead 25-6 after the opening frame.
Ward led an 11-3 rally to start the second, pulling Dawson Springs to within ten points after back-to-back threes. However, the Lady Lyons answered with another 14-point spurt to take a 24-point cushion into the halftime break.
Macy Drennan scored six points in the third for the Lady Panthers, but Lyon County continued to build the lead behind seven from Taylor and five for Holland. Two free throws by Taylor triggered a running clock with six seconds left in the third and the Lady Lyons leading 63-27.
Taylor finished with a game-high 28, joined in double figures for the Lady Lyons by Holland with 12 and Courtney Collins with ten.
Ward connected on four three-pointers to score 15 in her final appearance on her home floor.
